The two pie charts compare, in percentage terms, the amount of men and women who were arrested in a five year period between 1989 and 1994.

Overall men were over three times more likely to have been (past perfect) arrested during the period than women. However, in both sexes over 50% of arrests were caused by alcohol-related offences.

Strikingly, almost 1/3rd of men were arrested during the period in question, with public drinking accounting for over 30% and drink-driving over 25% of these arrests. By contrast, at under 15% comparatively, few women were taken into custody on account of being drunk at the wheel, whereas almost 40& were caused by public displays of drunkenness.

Men were more likely than women to steal or breach orders with figures of  16% and 18 % respectively. However, proportionally women were more likely to commit assault with almost a 1/5 of all female arrests being due to violent incidents. Over 20% of crimes that were committed by both men and women were either unaccounted for due to no reason being identified or no response.
