Example Introductions

Many commentators suggest individuals have become more self-reliant than they were in the past. Others suggest that we are still very much reliant on our family, friends and other social groups. I agree with the latter argument and in this essay I will explain why.

People have different views about whether we are more or less dependent on others nowadays. In my view, modern life forces us to be more independent than people were in the past.

Example Essay -1

In the contemporary world, people depend on others more than before, while some think that it has made them more self- reliant. It has been suggested that in the modern world people are more dependant on others than ever before, whereas others argue we have never been so self-sufficient. I believe the latter and will discuss the reasons supporting this in my essay.

some people think that people rely on others more than before because in the modern era, most young people get help and assistance from their elders in one way or the other. In other words, most families have become nuclear and this has restrained the younger generation from being completely independent. For example, most parents are reluctant to allow their children to suffer financially or physically. For instance, although most young people own their own houses by their mid- thirties most of them get help from their parents with the mortgage payments. Even if people want to be more independent the help offered relentlessly by their elders might make them want to seek the assistance rather than being own their own. The result of this is that many young people live independently in name only, and are in fact still supported by their parents.

It has also been suggested that people are more self-sufficient in modern times as the cutting-edge technology provides access to most of the internet services required for daily activities. This means, one can easily get food delivered to their home, take Uber services for transportation, get laundry done at professional laundrettes etc. This makes one feel self-sufficient. Since, the high education and well-paid jobs makes it easier for people to get what they need without relying own others, proves that people are getting more and more independent.

Furthermore, in my opinion,  higher levels of education and knowledge about survival allows young people to be  more independent. Most who go to universities are forced to stay at rental apartments and hence are trained to live alone even from their adolescence. The practice makes it even easier for them to be self-sufficient in their later life.

In conclusion, while I concede that the monetary help from parents may have given rise to some boomerang kids, I believe that overall the high income and facilities have moulded a generation who are stable on their own. Should independence be encouraged? If it isn’t, I would fear a future world, where the new generation stumbles without depending on others.
