HSK 4 Vocab 仔细 attentive

The word 仔细 (xì) is often followed by 地 (de) to form an adverb meaning carefully, or attentively. It usually precedes a verb such as 查 (chá) meaning to examine, making to carefully examine. Or it could precede 观察 meaning look to make 仔细观察 (zǐxì guānchá) look carefully. Let’s look at some examples of this in practical usage.

This word is frequently used with the verb 发现 (fāxiàn) discover, because when we examine carefully we are doing so in the hope we discover something (see example 7 below).
