不是 就是

Today we will look at the grammar of 不是 …..就是. This basically means if something isn’t one thing then it is the other. For example in English we may say: ‘If John isn’t studying then he is playing football.’ In Chinese:

John不是在上课就是在踢足球,要不就在购物

Another example might be if we bought something a few years ago at the pound shop. We can’t remember the exact price, but we know everything in that shop is either priced at £1, or £2. Maybe we would say ‘It was either one or two pounds.’

And in chinese?

不是1英镑就是2银棒
