把 – structure

This is a structure used for a command in Chinese, or used to express that a subject took an object and did something to it. An example of this can be found in the classroom command illustrated below:

Example 1 

把书轻轻的放下 (bǎ shū qīngqīng de fàngxià) – please put the book down gently.

The context for this use is a teacher with a classroom of students. She wants the students to put down their books without too much noise. So she begins with the indicator of the passive structure 把, next the object 书. This is then folowed by an adverb 轻轻的, which in this case means lightly but is better translated into English as gently. Finally we have 放下, meaning put down.
